SOMATICS AND TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE WORKING GROUPS 2012
Working Groups lie at the heart of scholarly exchange through the opportunity they provide for scholarly dialogue in a relatively informal setting. In these Working Groups, members discuss in an open forum the implications of a number of individual papers-in-progress and/or artistic ideas-in-development, with the aim of supporting the development of those ideas through discussion, feedback and open debate.
On June 22nd, the day prior to the forthcoming Somatics and Technology conference at the University of Chichester (June 23rd 2012) the dance department will be offering scholars and practitioners the opportunity to participate in one of the Somatics and Technology Working Groups that will be convened at the conference, with an aim to address issues that are raised when engaged in new ways of thinking about, or new ways of working with somatic practices and technology. These groups offer an unparalleled opportunity for feedback from peers on nascent ideas or works, and the generation of an active dialogue between participants at the conference.
Structure
- ° A number of papers/projects will be selected for discussion by each Working Group from proposals submitted to the Working Group conveners.
- ° In order to allow Working Group members to become familiar with the ideas, some 2 weeks before the conference draft papers and/or a short presentation of new artistic research will be submitted by the authors of successful proposals for distribution to members of the group.
- ° On the 22nd June the authors/artists will give a 10 minute précis of the central themes of the papers-in-progress and/or artistic ideas-in-development to members of the Working Group and propose questions/issues that they would like to be considered during the discussion.
- ° Discussion will then take place.

20:30 onwards An informal dinner will be organised at a local restaurant for those wishing to dine together (at delegates’ expense)
NOTE: Numbers will be limited and on a first come basis. This event is free for anyone who has registered for Saturday’s Somatics & Technology Conference 2012. However, for those not attending the following day’s conference, the Working Groups event will attract a £25 charge (payable on the day).
